JUSTICE TEMPERED WITH COMPASSION

MY BACKGROUND & VISION 

 

It is time to elect new leadership to bring much needed change to Clayton County Superior Court. I bring nearly 15 years of  judicial experience with me to this position.  A current student pursing a Master’s in Judicial Studies, I am well versed in the law, rules, procedures, policy, and practices.  As a lifelong learner, I remain committed to continuing education, additional certifications, fellowships, and degrees.  The bar I set for myself is high because I believe excellence should be the standard when you are charged with the authority to impact the lives of others in such a significant manner. Meeting the bare minimum requirements is insufficient for this purpose. My purpose in life is doing justice, which I will do with excellence. That is why I seek to be your Superior Court Judge. My philosophy is knowledge, justice, and accountability tempered with fairness, integrity, and compassion.

 

As a divorced single-mother, with a front row seat to the challenges and perils of life in current society, I want to ensure that my tenure will be led by learned decisions, informed by the best practices, and strategies. Tempering justice and accountability with opportunities for rehabilitation and growth. If elected, I will  implement restorative, fair, balanced justice, and accountability.

The criminal justice system must incorporate the science of brain development, and its impact on behaviors into crime reduction strategies. The failure to adequately address offenders, including their mental health needs, fuels an unsustainable cycle of recidivism.  We as a community can no longer afford to continue these outdated practices. Putting Clayton County at the forefront of the important task of employing best practice strategies designed to address the needs of both the community and the accused is my goal. Equipping participants with the life-skills and tools to allow them to lead productive lives while simultaneously improving community safety, strengthening the workforce, and increasing overall community safety.

I recognize the need for new leadership, and a new vision for Clayton County, to bring fresh new ideas to reality.  In addition to doing justice, it is my ultimate desire to bring beneficial change to Clayton County Superior Court.  A shift from favoritism and cronyism, to fairness and equality. The belief that one can continue to do the same thing, and benefit from a different, favorable result is the definition of insanity.
